10 Steps to Building a Professional Facebook Page

Facebook is a great way to display local events, promote your blog posts and show off your brand to your community. It’s important you set up your Facebook Page properly and completely.

Please note, you create a Page using your personal account, do not create another profile for your business. With that said, let’s get started building your Business Page.

  • For your template, we recommend using the Business template. This template was created to help drive traffic back to your website.

  • Facebook asks that you choose three categories. We suggest that you select:

    • Local & Travel Website

    • Community

    • Local Service

  • Name your Facebook Page the same name you used on your website. It’s important to be consistent across all your platforms. Just the name, leave off your tagline. ex: Lake Oconee Life

  • Choose your vanity URL. This is how people will tag your page. I recommend you keep it simple. Please don’t skip this step. ex: @lakeoconeelife

  • Don’t miss the opportunity to leverage your Facebook Page with SEO. Facebook is considered an authority and therefore indexed by Google. You have five opportunities to add keywords to your page which increases your search engine optimization. Below are the five categories you should complete using all your keywords, such as your community name, “things to do”, etc.

    • Description

    • Mission

    • Awards

    • Products

    • About

  • Add your logo to the Profile Picture. Please don’t use a photo, your logo is like a mini-billboard working for you day and night. When you comment on a Page, it’s your logo that people will see.

  • Using your Canva account create an engaging cover photo for your page. Choose the Facebook Cover template for the perfect size.

  • Use the promotion button under the cover photo to get more subscribers

  • Assign roles to your Facebook Page. Even if you are a solopreneur, please make sure to give someone you trust access to your Page. Think of it this way, if you only have one key to your house and you lose it, you can never get back in. If for any reason, you lose access to your page, you lose it forever if you are the only administrator.

  • Now it’s time to promote your page. Set a goal and timeframe for when you would like to reach 100 Likes.

    • Invite family and friends to Like and share your Page.

    • Invite local venues and businesses.

    • Make sure you have the Facebook icon turned on your website.

Until next time,

Holly
